The water quality that comes out of this pump varies per season. According to some water users, even if the water turns red they can still drink it without getting sick. However, they still prefer the pump to the open well or the river which affects their health. As explained in another section [xyz], the pump can in this situation become treacherous as it is a technology that invites trust. Some users still use the open well or even drink from the rice fields. But Joeline goes out of her way to sensitize the water users about purification methods.

About 25 households use the pump, and passers-by widely use it as it is on the main road to the market. The pump itself is not a place to socialize, which can be explained by the proximity of the market. But the pump is maintained collectively by each household in the vicinity, who contribute to the adidy. When there is a problem with the pump, everybody comes together to discuss how much needs to be paid collectively.

The advantage of the pump is a better health and the proximity so they don’t need to leave the fire behind. The committee members explain that they now have more time to do other things, and they face less financial difficulties. This is because they don’t need to pay someone to collect water and there are no health problems with their children.
