This pumps is used by the church and all the surrounding households, which means that many people use the pump. The pump works well and the quality and taste of the water is very good.

They had to repair the pump in 2014 and each household paid 200 ariary. Then there was another repair because the pump was so frequently used, and everybody had to pay 500 ariary to build a fence around it. In the rainy season some 60 households use the pump and in the dry season even 200.

One woman explains that she feels safe when she drinks water from the pump because she is not afraid of diseases anymore. Also she does not need to wait for the v (rice water) to be ready (and cold enough) to drink. There are three opening times a day:

5.00 - 9.00

12.00 - 14.00

16.00 - 21. 00

In the beginning there was confusion because some people thought that it belonged to the church. But now many people use it. The committee has recently stopped functioning because some people wanted to use the pump before 5.00 am and they were angry that the pump was closed. The key holder did not welcome this aggression and handed the key back to the pastor’s wife. They are now trying to find a solution and establish a new committee. Joeline explains that the pump belongs to everybody and that this has to be communicated to all villagers. Work in progress.
